LA Marathon 2025

The City of Angels is hosting a marathon again! Come to enjoy its magnificent route and share your experience with others!

At the first marathon in LA, held on March 9, 1986, over 10,000 runners participated, making it one of the largest first-time marathons in the U.S. Since then, the Los Angeles Marathon has grown to become one of the largest running events in the country, now attracting more than 25,000 runners from around the world.

The charity impact of this marathon is enormous! It has raised millions for local and international charities, with runners supporting causes like education, healthcare, and youth programs! On the same day as the main race, the Charity Half Marathon is organized.

The event aims to build a healthier world through its events. The marathon provides a platform for fundraising to cure neurological diseases and empower communities!

The famous route, Stadium to the Sea, was introduced in 2010. It starts at Dodger Stadium and winds through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and other landmarks before ending near the Santa Monica Pier.

True to LA’s character, the marathon attracts many celebrities, with past participants including actors and musicians such as Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The 2025 Los Angeles Marathon, presented by ASICS, is scheduled for March 16!

What to Expect When Attending LA Marathon 2025

There's something for everyone - from the LA 5K and LA Kids Run on Saturday to the Charity Half Marathon and Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday.

For the main race, expect an early start at 7 AM. The route offers an authentic Los Angeles experience! The start line is at Dodger Stadium, and you'll pass through iconic neighborhoods and landmarks, including Chinatown, Echo Park, Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills. The finish line is in Century City. The toughest stretch is Heartbreak Hill, located near Mile 20, and it's notoriously challenging for runners due to the long, gradual incline.

Every participant will get a medal for each race and a special Conquer LA challenge medal at the end of the Marathon or Charity Half Marathon.

You can choose between many viewing spots! Popular viewing areas include Chinatown, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the final miles around Century City. These spots often have lots of fan support and make for great photos! The Los Angeles Marathon is known for its enthusiastic cheer zones, with live music, DJ sets, and dancing cheerleaders energizing participants along the way! Century City has a finish-line festival with food, music, and celebrations, creating an excellent atmosphere for spectators to celebrate with the runners!

Pleasant, mild weather is ideal for a long run. At this time of year, Los Angeles typically sees daytime highs around 68°F (20°C) and cooler lows averaging 51°F (10.8°C).

To participate in the Los Angeles Marathon, there isn't a qualification time requirement like some other marathons. Instead, entry is generally open to anyone who registers before the race reaches its capacity. Participants must be at least 16 years old on race day for the marathon. It's important to sign up early, as spots can fill up quickly due to the popularity of the event. • When should I start training for the L.A. Marathon?

Starting your training for the L.A. Marathon depends on your current fitness level and running experience. Typically, a dedicated marathon training plan ranges from 16 to 20 weeks, allowing your body to gradually adapt to the increased mileage and intensity. For beginners, giving yourself the longer end of that range, about 20 weeks, is wise to build up endurance safely and reduce the risk of injury. This means if you're aiming for the L.A. Marathon on March 17, 2024, you should start your training around late October to early November 2023. Experienced runners with a solid base might opt for a shorter plan but should still allow ample time for a comprehensive training cycle that includes long runs, speed work, recovery periods, and tapering. Remember, personalizing your training based on past experiences, goals, and life commitments is key to preparing effectively for race day.
