A ballgame on a sunny day at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles has been an iconic attraction and landmark in the city for several decades now. Located at 1000 Vin Scully Ave in Elysian Park, it's the perfect central location making it easy to get to and from. The stadium holds the title as the oldest ballpark in the entire MLB west of the Mississippi River. Constructed in 1962, the only ballparks older than Dodger Stadium are Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.

Part of the allure of this stadium is that it has managed to both modernize and stay true to its roots. It's a fine line to walk, yet Dodger Stadium is doing it with flying colors. Over the years there have been many renovations, but the essence of the stadium remains and helps to make this a fun place to catch a sporting event, concert, or some other event.

While Dodger Stadium is mainly known as the home field for the MLB Los Angeles Dodgers, it has also hosted plenty of other events. Some of the most iconic musical acts who have performed in the stadium include The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Michael Jackson, KISS, Simon and Garfunkle, and The Bee Gees.

While your big reason to visit Los Angeles may be a game or event at Dodger Stadium, be sure to also leave a little extra time for exploring the city. Located near the stadium are such attractions and sites as Chinatown, Sunset Boulevard, the Los Angeles River, the Grammy Museum, and more. You can explore on your own, or even sign up for a guided tour if you prefer.

Bag Policy at Dodger Stadium: What You Need to Know Before You Visit

Just like so many other stadiums around the United States, there is a clear bag policy in effect at Dodger Stadium. Clear plastic bags also need to fit the size requirements, which cannot be larger than 12” x 12” x 6”. Any bag larger than this size is prohibited.

Some of the prohibited bags on game day include:

  • Backpacks
  • Coolers
  • Beach Bags

If you have a small bag that is a maximum of 5” x 8” x 2”, it doesn't need to be clear. That could include a small clutch bag. To give you a visual, that is about half the size of a standard piece of paper, so we are talking about a very small bag, much smaller than typical purses and even some larger clutch bags. It's more like the size of wallets.

Another exception to the bag policy is adult diaper bags and diaper bags for infants.

For those who are showing up to a game expecting to store bags at the stadium grounds, there are no storage lockers available. It's best to arrive at the ballpark light and not carry much of anything with you. Be sure to read your ticket properly so you know which gate is your entrance point.

Know the Outside Food and Drink Policy at Dodger Stadium

Refillable water bottles are allowed, but they can't be glass and they need to be empty when you enter the gate. There are free water bottle filling stations in the stadium you can use. As well, plastic factory-sealed bottles that contain non-alcoholic beverages are allowed. No metal cans or glass bottles are permitted.

Outside food is allowed, but again there are rules. Food needs to fit in your clear bag. A Ziploc bag can be a great option, just be sure you're using bags smaller than 12” x 12” x 6”.

If you don't want to deal with carrying outside food and drink into the stadium, then you can get something to eat once you arrive.

Final Useful Tips When Going To Dodger Stadium

When it comes to getting to Dodger Stadium, you can drive and use the parking lot on-site, but be aware it fills up fast. Besides a crowded parking lot, Los Angeles traffic is some of the worst in all of North America.

The best option is to travel by public transit so you don't have to worry about parking. As long as you are a ticket holder you can use the Dodger Stadium Express for free, which connects to public transit at South Bay and Union Station. You can also arrive by bus using the Vin Scully Avenue Metro Bus routes. Routes 1, 2, 3, and 4 all make stops at the stadium.

For those who need information about ADA accommodations, it's best to call the Dodger Hotline at 323-224-2611. You can also discuss requirements you may have for a specific medical issue.

And one final thing to note is that cash is no longer permitted for use in Dodger Stadium, you'll need a credit or debit card. If you don't have a credit or debit card, you can use the Cash-to-Card kiosks on the stadium grounds. These allow you to purchase prepaid debit cards with cash.
