Houston Marathon 2025

Come and attend the popular marathon which brings euphoria to downtown Houston each year!

The marathon was first held in 1972 as the "Houston 10,000" before being rebranded as the Chevron Houston Marathon in 1981. Over the years, it has expanded from a small local event to one of the largest marathons in the U.S. Today, the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon, and We Are Houston 5K collectively attract over 33,000 participants annually.

The marathon course is a flat and fast loop through the streets of downtown Houston, making it a popular choice for runners looking to set personal records or qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Fun fact! In 1993, when he was the managing general partner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, former President George Bush completed this race in 3 hours, 44 minutes, and 52 seconds! He was 46 years old at the time!

The Chevron Houston Marathon will occur on Sunday, January 19, 2025, while the Houston 5K Marathon will be held the day before.

What to Expect When Attending Houston Marathon 2025

The Marathon Expo is a must-visit! It will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center and feature vendors offering gear, nutrition, and running tips. You can also pick up your race packet there.

The Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon start line is on Congress Avenue at Fannin. The course is flat and fast, with sections running through diverse neighborhoods, including Montrose, River Oaks, and West University.

When you cross the finish line at Lamar and Crawford, you’ll be welcomed by a celebratory post-race festival. Finishers will receive medals, snacks, and water, and there will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture the moment!

Bring signs, noisemakers, and lots of enthusiasm to motivate runners if you're there to cheer!

The forecast predicts a pleasant day for runners, with temperatures ranging between lows of 44–52°F (7–11°C) in the mornings and highs around 60–64°F (15–18°C) later in the day. Don't let the weather stop you from cheering on the runners; simply dress warmly and enjoy the event!
