Rome Marathon 2025

Test your endurance and strategy at the Eternal City's marathon!

The Rome Marathon, or Maratona di Roma, began in 1982 and became an annual event in 1995, evolving into one of the most prestigious marathons in the world. Its unique feature is the gorgeous route, which takes runners through the beautiful streets of Rome. This marathon combines physical challenge and cultural immersion, which is why it’s so unique.

This race is certified by the World Athletics and attracts elite runners and amateurs from over 100 countries. Its flat yet cobblestoned course adds a layer of complexity and takes participants past historical sites like the Colosseum, Vatican City, and Roman Forum. Often regarded as 'the most beautiful marathon in the world,' the Rome Marathon offers time travel through an open-air museum! It’s common to see participants dressed as Roman gladiators, gods, or even Caesar himself, which brings a whimsical element to the event.

Alongside the main race, a 4.5 km non-competitive race allows families, tourists, and locals to enjoy the festive spirit.

Run Rome The Marathon will occur on March 16. Feel the excitement of this journey with others!

What to Expect When Attending Rome Marathon 2025

Before race day, participants must visit the Marathon Village to collect their bib numbers and race pack. The village is lively, with booths offering gear, health products, and souvenirs.

Although Rome is known as the City of Seven Hills, the marathon course is surprisingly flat, with just a few challenging cobblestones along the way. The race starts at the Imperial Forum and goes past many beautiful city streets.

The runners pass many important landmarks, such as the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus, Saint Peter's Basilica, Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Trevi Fountain. Imagine running past Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona, and Piazza di Spagna with the famous Spanish Steps! There's even a chance that Pope Francis might be taking Sunday Morning Mass in St. Peter's Square as you run by.

This race offers many breathtaking moments besides these and is different than any other marathon in so many ways. Come and discover all that it has to offer!

The time limit for reaching the finish line at the Imperial Forum is six and a half hours.

If you're coming to cheer, some of the best viewing spots from where you can watch the race are the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Vatican City (offering plenty of space for spectators), and Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most famous squares, with many nearby cafes. Visitors will enjoy live music, cultural displays, and food and drinks from street vendors.

The weather will be springlike, with a temperature around 13 C (approximately 55.4 F), although it's expected to be 9 C (48.2 F) in the morning. It’ll be a perfect day for running! If you're spectating, dress in layers so you can enjoy.
