About Stamford Bridge

Any fan of Chelsea Football Club will already know that Stamford Bridge is where the team plays all their home matches. Found in South West London, and more specifically, Fulham, this footballing landmark stadium was originally opened as an athletics venue in 1877.

It wasn't until 1905 after the stadium was offered to Fulham FC and they turned it down, that Chelsea FC made it their home. The design of the stadium was masterminded by the renowned architect Archibald Leitch. At its peak, Stamford Bridge could accommodate an estimated 100,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums of its time.

Although in its current state, it can't welcome more than 40,341 football fans, Stamford Bridge has witnessed significant renovations to improve safety and comfort over the years. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge during match days is electric. The crowd's energy, combined with the venue's historic significance, makes this a notable destination in a city full of world-class attractions.

Luckily, even if you're not a die-hard Chelsea supporter, doing a stadium tour to see the inner workings of such a huge venue can still be fun. Plus, there's lots to do near Stamford Bridge, so you can easily combine a trip here with more varied activities.

Stamford Bridge bag policy

Chelsea FC has implemented a strict bag policy for matchdays at Stamford Bridge, limiting the size of bags allowed into the stadium. Only A4 size or smaller bags, specifically 30cm x 20cm x 10cm, are permitted inside. This is generally akin to the average handbag, so large suitcases, backpacks, and other items will not be permitted inside the venue. While this policy may seem a little strict, its goal is to enhance security and reduce entry congestion.

Stamford Bridge Stadium does not have any luggage storage facilities available for fans. That means that you'll need to make alternate arrangements for your stuff. Your best bet is to use one of the options in the Bounce luggage storage network to store your luggage before a game or a tour. We have locations all over London, so it's super easy to find one close to the stadium, your hotel, the nearest Tube Station, or popular attractions.

Can I take a bag into Stamford Bridge?

Yes, but it must be small. Any bag larger than 30cm x 20cm x 10cm (similar to the size of an average handbag) is not allowed into Stamford Bridge. Any bags larger than this will need to be stored safely before you arrive. Consider using a convenient luggage storage service like Bounce as we have multiple locations in the area.

What is the baggage allowance for the Stamford Bridge?

It's limited. Only items the size of an A4 sheet of paper (30cm x 20cm x 10cm) can accompany you into Stamford Bridge. There are no luggage storage options inside the stadium, so you'll need a plan to find baggage deposit facilities elsewhere. Bounce's network of options near Stamford Bridge can help you store your luggage or other cumbersome items for as long as you need.

How can I find luggage storage near Stamford Bridge?

When you want a good overview of all the available locations near the stadium, download the Bounce app or go to our website. Just search for Stamford Bridge or use the geolocation option to find all the luggage storage facilities near you. Then, it's easy to book online and get directions to the drop-off point so that you can enjoy your game or tour stress-free.

Can you leave luggage at London Bridge?

London Bridge Train Station does have luggage storage facilities. They are located on the upper concourse, outside the station approach. There are also many luggage storage services operated by companies like Bounce right outside the station as well.

How to get to Stamford Bridge

Public transportation

The most convenient way to get to Stamford Bridge using public transport is on the London Underground, aka the Tube. The nearest Tube station is Fulham Broadway, which is a five-minute walk from the stadium. Additionally, there are two overground stations in the vicinity called Imperial Wharf and West Brompton if you're arriving from outside the city. These stations are roughly 15 minutes on foot from Stamford Bridge.

If you're traveling from London Heathrow, you should hop on the Piccadilly Line first towards Cockfosters exiting at Earl's Court. Then it's just two stops to Fulham Broadway. This trip will take you about an hour.

If you're heading from the city center near Charing Cross Station, you can just get on the District Line from here and ride nine stops to Fulham Broadway. This journey should only take about 30 minutes.

By car

Planning to rent a car in London or rely on taxis or rideshares? Because the city can be jam-packed with traffic during most of the day, this isn't always the quickest way to get to Stamford Bridge. Driving from Charing Cross will take an average of 20 minutes, but this can easily double during peak travel periods. Similarly, driving from Heathrow to the stadium actually takes just as long (or longer) than using the Tube as there are almost always backups along the way. The trip in a taxi or rideshare is costly, especially when compared to the Tube, which is generally about $5. For the comfort of a private car, expect to pay up to $90 to make the trip.
