The Laneway Festival began in 2005 in Melbourne, Australia. It started as a small event in a laneway behind St. Jerome’s bar, emphasizing intimate performances and indie music.

Due to its initial success, the festival quickly grew and expanded to other Australian cities, including Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. It even became an international event, with editions in New Zealand (Auckland) and several Asian cities, including Singapore!

Laneway has built a reputation for spotlighting up-and-coming acts alongside established indie and alternative musicians. Many artists who performed early in their careers, such as Tame Impala, Lorde, and Florence + The Machine, later achieved global success!

Initially held in smaller venues, the Laneway Festival now takes place at Flemington Park, which, while larger, still offers an intimate atmosphere.

• Buses: The area's routes include 404 (Footscray to Moonee Ponds).
