Bloemencorso 2025

Join us for the most spectacular spring festival in the Netherlands, the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek. This festival bursts into life with a parade of flower-covered floats, lively colors, and the sweetest scent!

Bloemencorso is a famous flower parade held in many cities in the Netherlands and Belgium. The term Bloemencorso combines the Dutch words "bloemen," meaning flowers, and "corso," meaning parade. Essentially, a Bloemencorso is a procession of praanwagens (floats) adorned with fresh flowers.

Bloemencorsos change with the seasons, so they introduce additional differences. The Bloemencorso Bollenstreek Flower Parade is the only flower parade that displays spring flowers like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. These blossoms peak in April and transform the parade into a vivid and aromatic festival.

The Flower Festival lasts from April 9 to 13, with the main parade on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

History of Bloemencorso

These events were popular in the Middle Ages as religious processions featuring floats that depicted biblical stories. Due to low literacy rates, the floats conveyed religious messages effectively through visual storytelling. With societal changes, religious parades slowly transformed into more secular celebrations, prompting people to decorate floats for festive occasions rather than religious ones.

In the late 19th century, Haarlem hosted one of the first Dutch flower parades. These initial events paved the way for the stunning floral displays we enjoy today. The Bloemencorso Bollenstreek started in 1947 to unite people and highlight the beauty of the Bulb Region.

With the rising popularity of Bloemencorsos, they have transformed into cultural icons. In 2021, UNESCO acknowledged the importance of this tradition by including corso culture on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

What to Expect When Attending Bloemencorso 2025

You'll find many magical activities during the Flower Parade weekend. Here's what awaits you:

In the days before the parade (April 9 to 11), volunteers meticulously decorate floats with spring flowers like hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils. Visitors can observe this creative process at JUB Holland in Noordwijkerhout.

On Friday evening, April 11, the night before the main event, enjoy an illuminated parade in Noordwijkerhout, where the floats glow under twinkling lights.

During the Flower Parade day, you'll watch as decorated floats adorned with thousands of fresh, beautiful spring flowers make their way along a 42.5 km route from Noordwijk to Haarlem. Each parade float is a breathtaking work of art with creative themes and intricate flower designs. The Flower Parade route starts in Noordwijk and goes through towns like Teylingen, Lisse, Hillegom, Bennebroek, and Heemstede, before concluding in Haarlem around 9 PM.

The day after the parade, the floats will remain on display in Haarlem's city center at the Flower Parade Expo, so you can admire them up close until 5 PM.

It's free to watch the parade along its route, but you can secure a spot on one of the grandstands for a more comfortable experience. These stands, equipped with nearby parking and catering amenities, are located in towns such as Lisse, Sassenheim, Voorhout, Noordwijk, and Hillegom. The prices for the Flower Parade stand seats start from €29.50, and you can book your place here.

During April, average daytime highs in the Bollenstreek region reach around 12 C to 14 C (53 F to 58 F), with nighttime lows dipping to approximately 6 C to 7 C (43 F to 45 F). Dress in layers, wear comfy shoes, and bring an umbrella just in case!

Security Protocols

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, Bloemencorso Bollenstreek follows essential security protocols. Expect bag checks at designated viewing areas; large bags or bulky items are best left at home. Stewards and security personnel will be present along the parade route to assist with any concerns. Emergency services are on standby, and clearly marked exits and first aid stations will be available. Be mindful of your belongings and follow any instructions from the event staff to keep the celebration fun and secure for all!
