Once known as the SkyDome, Rogers Centre is the home to Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays. The stadium was opened in 1989 and was the first stadium with a retractable roof. Plans for a stadium in Toronto were first drafted in 1923 but did not begin to be realized until the early 1970s when Toronto made a serious bid to bring Major League Baseball to Canada. It was not until the mid-1980s when the new plans for a baseball stadium were put in place, and the stadium was built. Today, Rogers Centre is not just home to the Blue Jays but also a major hub for Toronto playing host to concerts, other sports entertainment venues, and even stadium golf.
No matter where your seat is in Rogers Centre, you will have a fantastic view of the field. Rain or shine, the game will go on thanks to the retractable roof, meaning there are never any rain delays or rainouts. It takes about 20 minutes to open or close the roof. Aside from the roof, the pitcher’s mound can also be raised and lowered hydraulically when the stadium is not hosting baseball games. Shop for fan gear at one of several souvenir shops and grab tasty stadium fare at one of the snack bars. Sit down to a great meal when you have one of the luxury suits or premier seats.
Fun Fact: When the roof to Rogers Centre is closed, a 31 story building can fit inside.
