An exciting story stands behind the Austin City Limits Music Festival. In 1974, Austin PBS, an American public broadcaster that provides educational programs, produced and recorded Austin City Limits, an American live music television program. Over the years, this show became the longest-running music series in American television history!

Important institutions have given this TV program many significant awards, such as the Peabody Award—an official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Landmark. It also became the only television program to receive the National Medal of Arts—the nation's highest award for artistic excellence. Truly an extraordinary achievement!

Inspired by the success of the ACL Live TV series recorded at the Moody Theater, the ACL Festival was founded in 2002 as a one-weekend event. However, since 2013, the festival has expanded to span two thrilling weekends at Zilker Park. 

Grab a pen and paper or your phone and mark the dates: Friday to Sunday, October 4-6 & 11-13. The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m. each day.

The festival has seen popular music legends, such as Metallica, Radiohead, Guns N' Roses, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, Paul McCartney, The Cure... The list goes on!

What to Expect When Attending Austin City Limits 2024

Expect seven stages throughout Zilker Park, with iconic musicians and innovators from every genre. From hip-hop and rock to indie, pop, and electronic music, the performers will make each evening unforgettable! The schedule is promising, bringing popular artists to the stage. Some of the artists in the incredible lineup are Chris Stapleton, Blink-182, Foster the People, Tyler the Creator, Dua Lipa, and many more.

More good news! The festival's weather predictions say that the days will be warm and pleasant, with temperatures ranging between mid-70s and mid-80s°F (around 24-29°C). However, mornings and evenings will be cooler, so bring some clothes that will keep you warm!

Approximately 450,000 people attend this rock and roll landmark yearly, so expect a large crowd!

One-day tickets: General Admission $165, GA+ $345, VIP $710

Three-day tickets: General Admission $380, GA+ $775, VIP $1,760

For the second weekend, students can purchase a three-day ticket for $350.

Security Protocols

• Magnetometer screening at the entrance.
• Bag checks at the entry.
• Uniformed security is present throughout the festival grounds to ensure everyone's safety.
• On-site medical tents are placed at many spots if someone needs assistance.
• Prohibited items - dangerous objects, weapons, and outside drinks and food.
• Bags larger than 12" x 6" x 12" are not allowed.

How to Get To or From the Event

• Festival Shuttles: ACL Music Festival provides shuttle services. The starting point is at Republic Square Park, at the corner of 4th & San Antonio streets in downtown Austin. You'll be dropped off right in front of the Barton Springs West Festival Entrance.
• Cap Metro: Several bus routes, like 803, operate near Zilker Park.

Remember, all bags smaller than 12" x 6" x 12" are checked at the entrance. Bags larger than that are prohibited.
