About South Philly
South Philly is a large area in Philadelphia, south of historic downtown Center City. Historically, the neighborhood has been home to a large Italian immigrant population, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, South Philadelphia is one of the city’s most rapidly changing neighborhoods, and is still largely influenced by its large population of immigrants, reflected in the area’s vibrant culture. The area now also features some of the city’s trendiest and popular local eats—including famed Pat’s and Geno’s cheesesteaks as well as popular restaurants along Easy Passyunk Avenue. It’s also home to the sports complex where the Philadelphia 76ers, Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers all play when in season.
Fun Fact: Famed actor Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo) hails from South Philadelphia
