  • The Ames Building, a historic skyscraper located in Boston, Massachusetts. Built in 1893, it was considered the city's first skyscraper and Boston's tallest building for 20 years. Designed in the Romanesque Revival style, it is recognized as the second tallest masonry load-bearing structure in the world. It is currently owned by Suffolk University and serves as a student residence. The Ames Building is a masterpiece of 19th-century engineering. Its design combines structural audacity with an imposing aesthetic. Architectural Style: Richardsonian Romanesque Revival: It is inspired by the influential work of architect Henry Hobson Richardson. The design was executed by his successor firm, Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge. Byzantine Influences: The facade incorporates intricate decorative carvings that add Byzantine details to the Romanesque robustness. Structure and Materials Masonry Load-Bearing Walls: Unlike modern skyscrapers supported by steel frames, this building is supported by the thickness of its own stone walls. This makes it the second tallest self-supporting masonry structure in the world (surpassed only by the Monadnock Building in Chicago). Granite Base: The first three floors are constructed of solid Milford granite to support the immense weight above. Sandstone and Slate Tower: The upper levels combine an Ohio sandstone facade with blue slate and red sandstone accents. Facade Composition Arched Windows: The lower and upper floors are distinguished by their large semicircular arches, a classic Romanesque Revival signature that helps distribute structural loads. Prominent Cornice: The building is crowned by a strongly projecting cornice that visually completes its 14 stories.

  • The space was easy to reach, the employee was friendly, but the shop is very small and suitcases are simply left in front of the snack shelves. We reserved the space through Airbnb, and the extra cost wasn't worth it. You can do the same at many other shops and get the same service for less money.

  • Very easy to find shop opposite south station, left 3 bags so we could explore more of boston as our flight wasnt until the eve. Very straight forward to scan and leave bags and again to collect, it took away the stress of having to lug the suitcases around all day.

  • It's a shop just steps from the train and bus station. It feels a bit odd to leave your bags right there in the store. But we stored three suitcases for three hours and everything was fine. We booked online an hour in advance without any problems.

Luggage storage near South Station for tourists visiting Quincy Market

Recommended for: tourists, families, solo travelers.

You just rolled into South Station, and your hotel check-in isn't for a few hours? Totally normal situation around here. The Freedom Trail, Quincy Market, and Faneuil Hall are all a quick walk from the station, and dragging a suitcase through those cobblestone areas is no fun. Bounce has safely handled over 10,000 bags in the South Station area, which tells you plenty of folks have already figured this out. The location near South Station opens early, so you can drop your stuff before the crowds hit Quincy Market. That food hall gets packed by midday. Trust me. The market itself is one of the oldest in the country. Street performers, clam chowder, lobster rolls. You want your hands free for all of it. Prices start from $2.25 and your bags get $10,000 protection. Once you stash your things, the New England Aquarium and the waterfront are just down the road, too.

Where to leave your bags at South Station before a business meeting

Recommended for: business travelers, conference attendees.

Early train from New York, and your meeting in the Financial District doesn't start until noon? Yeah, that happens a lot around here. South Station sits right at the edge of downtown, so you're basically already where you need to be. The spot near South Station has over 1,300 reviews and a 4.7-star rating. Quick drop off, no fuss. The Seaport is about a 10-minute walk if you're headed to a conference there. The Financial District offices are even closer. South Station connects to the Red Line and Silver Line, so getting around after your meeting is straightforward. The bus terminal upstairs runs routes to New York, the Cape, and New Hampshire if you're continuing on later. Having your briefcase and roller bag secured nearby means you can grab coffee at one of the spots inside the station, prep for your presentation, and not worry about your stuff. Over 2,000,000 customers worldwide have used Bounce for exactly this kind of thing.

Bag storage options near South Station for day trippers heading to Cape Cod

Recommended for: commuters, day trippers, locals.

Taking the bus to the Cape for the day? Or maybe catching the ferry to Provincetown? South Station is where most of those routes start. But hauling a big bag on and off a bus when you just want to hit the beach for a few hours? Not ideal. The area around South Station has 2 Bounce locations, and our near South Station option opens early. Handy if you're catching one of those morning departures to Woods Hole or Hyannis. Peter Pan and Plymouth & Brockton buses all leave from the terminal upstairs. With nearly 4,700 reservations made at this spot, plenty of day trippers have figured out this trick. Leave the heavy stuff, enjoy your day, and pick it up when you're back. The 4.9 app rating shows people find the process pretty smooth. If you're doing a beach day, whale watching, or just escaping the city for a bit, traveling light makes everything better.
