Great Manchester Run 2025

Get on your running journey or cheer on your racer at Manchester's best-loved running event!

The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run is one of the UK’s most popular running events, held annually in Manchester. This city's original race is part of the Great Run series, and it features a 10K and a Half Marathon distance.

The Great Manchester Run burst onto the scene in 2003, inspired by the success of the Great North Run, and quickly became the North West’s biggest running celebration. Over the years, it’s welcomed more than half a million runners, from Olympic champions like Mo Farah to everyday heroes pounding the pavement for charity.

The Great Manchester Run delivers heart, hustle, and high-fives in true Mancunian style. Be there on Sunday, 18 May 2025!

What to Expect When Attending the Great Manchester Run 2025

Many participants come as teams, charities, or with their running club buddies, ready to tackle the streets of Manchester together.

The Half Marathon challenge starts near Portland Street and takes runners on an exciting 13.1-mile journey through the city centre streets. The route heads out along Chester Road (A56) toward the famous Old Trafford stadium, with a unique view of the legendary home of Manchester United. The course loops around Salford Quays, passing landmarks like MediaCityUK and the Imperial War Museum North. After crossing Trafford Road, it continues back to the city center, along Bridgewater Way and through Deansgate, where cheering crowds greet runners at the finish line.

The Great Manchester Run 10K race shares the same starting point on Portland Street and follows a shorter, but no less amazing, route. It heads southwest along Chester Road, also passing close to Old Trafford, before reaching a turnaround point near White City. The return leg takes runners along Bridgewater Way, before the final stretch down Deansgate to the finish.

Both routes are known for being flat, fast, and fun - perfect for beginners aiming to complete their first race, as well as experienced runners chasing new personal bests.

All participants who cross the finish line will get a finisher tee shirt, a stylish and meaningful keepsake.. This exclusive t-shirt celebrates your achievement and serves as a wearable reminder of your race day experience.

The course offers a fantastic experience for spectators. You'll enjoy live music, a high-energy soundtrack, and entertainment zones along the entire route. Plus, there's the most enthusiastic local support and charity cheer points!

The finish line area buzzes with energy and is well-organized, so it's perfect for reconnecting with runners afterwards.

Race Registration

You can secure your own place here. A half-marathon entry costs £54.50, while a 10K race is priced at £47.50.

If you'd like to run to raise money for a charity and make a real difference, you can choose from hundreds of free charity places. You can join an army of Team Christie supporters, which raises money for cancer treatment, or run for St Ann's Hospice, which helps people with life-limiting illnesses. Choose from the list, visit the charity's website, and make a donation!

This event also donates to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. A portion of every runner’s entry fee helps fund tree planting projects across the UK. Manchester runners can choose to donate extra or fundraise specifically for the appeal, and give the event an even greener legacy.

Security Protocols

To keep everyone safe and ensure the day runs smoothly, the event has a range of friendly but effective security protocols in place. Expect visible security staff, bag checks, and restricted vehicle access around the course area. Runners are encouraged to travel light and use the official baggage drop if needed. There’s also a strong medical presence throughout the route, ready to help at a moment’s notice.

Here's how to make your journey smooth:

  • Tram (Metrolink): The tram is your best bet on race day. Manchester’s Metrolink network offers extensive coverage, with stops near key points along the race route. Trams are expected to run frequently, and extra services will be added to accommodate the event crowds.
