About Burbank Airport
Hollywood Burbank Airport, or simply Burbank Airport, is a public regional airport situated about 4.8 kilometers northwest of downtown Burbank, a city in the Los Angeles County of California. Formerly known as Bob Hope Airport, the airport primarily serves Downtown Los Angeles as well as the northern parts of the Greater Los Angeles area, which includes San Fernando Valley, Pasadena, and Glendale. The Burbank Airport is under the ownership of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority and is managed by the local government of these cities.
While the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main airport in the Los Angeles area, many people fly in through the Burbank Airport because compared to LAX, it is closer to some of LA’s most renowned spots, such as Hollywood. It serves as a gateway to Downtown Los Angeles and is the only airport in the Los Angeles County that has a direct rail connection to DTLA. This is a huge convenience for passengers who want to see the top attractions in the area.
Fun fact: To reduce the noise of aircraft leaving and arriving, the Burbank Airport has implemented a strict noise abatement procedure - no commercial flights are scheduled to take off between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM. All arriving flights land on Runway 8, while all departing flights will take off from Runway 15.
