About O’Hare Airport
O’Hare Airport (ORD) is located in Northwest Chicago, 14 miles from the Loop business district. It succeeded Chicago Midway International Airport as the city’s primary aviation hub in 1955. O’Hare is unique in that it’s a major hub for more than one of the main air carriers based in the United States. It’s the busiest hub for United Airlines and the third-largest hub for American Airlines. It also serves as a focus city for Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines.
Fun fact: O’Hare’s Terminal 3 is home to the nation’s first airport aeroponic garden, wherein plants hang suspended in the air and are tended to via mineral nutrient mist (rather than soil).
