Make the most out of your day with San Siro luggage storage

Most first-time visitors rarely venture outside of Milan’s historic district in the center of the city. While it's hard to argue against visiting revered landmarks like Duomo di Milano and Castello Sforzesco, venturing outside the city center provides a more authentic experience and accurate picture of daily life in Milan. One of the best places to head is San Siro, which you'll likely recognize if you're familiar at all with European soccer.

The most notable landmark in the area is the San Siro Stadium, which is home to both Milan soccer clubs (Inter and AC) which are two of the most successful organizations and brands in Italian soccer. The stadium is situated in the heart of the district and provides one of the best gameday atmospheres in Europe. If neither team is in town, you can get part of the experience through a guided tour of the stadium.

Another notable sporting facility is the historic Ippodromo Snai San Siro, which is a historic race course used for Europe's top equestrian events. Like the San Siro, the Ippodromo is well worth a visit to tour this beautiful Romanesque facility even when there isn't an event. While you might have to look elsewhere to find the best restaurants in Milan, San Siro’s culinary and cultural offerings are perfectly sufficient for putting together a nice itinerary.

Despite its location outside of central Milan, San Siro is incredibly easy to reach via public transportation. You'll be able to pop out to see the stadiums rather quickly, and the Bounce luggage storage options in the area are available if you need to store your bags while you walk around.

Getting to San Siro

San Siro and its sports areas are situated a few miles outside of Milan city center but are well-connected to the rest of the city via public transportation. In general, most travelers will take the Milan Metro to reach the area for games or events. The drive from the city center is not bad, but traffic certainly complicates that on game day.

San Siro by train

There aren't any long-distance train stations directly located within San Siro, but you can reach Milano Centrale train station in about 20 minutes via Metro Line M1 or M5. From there, you'll be able to make connections to other cities in Italy and Europe.

Taking the Milan Subway to San Siro

Line M5 and M1 are routed through San Siro’s metro stops, including San Siro Ippodromo and San Siro Stadio Stations.

  • Line M1: Milano Centrale (18 minutes), Teatro alla Scala (30 minutes), Duomo di Milano (30 minutes)
  • Line M5: Milano Centrale (20 minutes), Castello Sforzesco (25 minutes)

Tram lines serving San Siro

Milan’s tram lines can be convenient ways to get around the city, and Line 16 runs directly through San Siro to the city center.

  • Line 16: Santa Maria delle Grazie (15 minutes), Teatro alla Scala (40 minutes), Castello Sforzesco (35 minutes)

Getting here from the airport

It takes about 45 minutes to get to San Siro from Milan Malpensa Airport and the direct route couldn’t be easier. The AirPullman Malpensa Shuttle Bus runs directly to San Siro (you’ll probably find yourself with plenty of AC Milan or Inter fans) and costs about $20. It’s a little more expensive than public transit but you’ll save at least 30 minutes.

If you need luggage storage in Milan, you can download the Bounce mobile app to find convenient locations near San Siro or other top travel hotspots. Heading to Rome or Venice? Bounce has you covered with secure luggage storage near every major travel destination in Italy and all the major train stations.
