Guests can learn about the history of WWII aviation, test out a flying simulator, see aircraft being repaired, and more throughout the museum’s two hangars. There’s also an Observation Tower where you can watch planes take off and land at the airport and an Airbus IMAX Theater playing educational films.
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center bag policy
Before visiting this museum, travelers should know that items like selfie sticks, scissors, tools, tripods, aerosol cans, and other specific belongings are prohibited. The museum has two sizes of storage lockers available for use, although they function on a first-come, first-served basis so there’s no guarantee that a locker will be available. How to get to Washington DC from Dulles Airport
Metro and bus
Route: You’ll have to transfer once when taking public transit from the airport to the city center, and the commute will take about an hour. Hop on the Silver metro line at Washington Dulles International Airport and ride to Farragut West. From there, walk to the bus stop at K St NW & 18 St NW and board the D6 or 38B bus. Hop off at 17 St NW & I St NW, leaving you in the heart of Washington DC.
Line and bus: Silver metro line, D6 or 38B bus
Fare: The metro and bus both cost $2.00.
Taxi
Route: As with most major airports, taxis are found near Dulles Airport. The Washington Flyer Taxicabs can bring travelers into the city center and drop them off at any location. You’ll also find Uber and Lyft drivers at the pickup location right outside of the main terminal arrivals level. Driving into Washington DC will take about 45 minutes.
