About Interlaken West
The older of Interlaken's two railway stations by only a couple of years, Interlaken West was first opened in 1872. However, Interlaken Ost gradually became the more important station of the two, as it sits on three different major railway lines. Now, Interlaken West is mostly used by regional trains that connect it to other cities in Switzerland. However, it does also have some international routes, specifically ones that run to Berlin and Hamburg.
Interlaken Ost is a little closer to the center of the city than Interlaken West, but is not a big difference if you're trying to choose between the two stations. The stations are close enough together that you can walk from one to the other if you need to transfer between trains. And if you do arrive in Interlaken West from outside town, you won't have to go very far at all to enjoy Interlaken and everything it has to offer.
