About Cadorna
As Italy's wealthiest city, Milan has an extensive and efficient public transit network. Cadorna station is not the biggest in Milan – that honor goes to Milano Centrale – but it is nevertheless an important part of the city's public transportation system. And even though it's not the central train station, it is conveniently close to the heart of the city and many of its most notable attractions.
The station has a long history. It was first opened in 1879, in the early days of the Italian rail network, and was made of wood to resemble a mountain chalet. However, nothing remains of this original structure. As part of the industrial and economic heart of Italy, Milan was heavily bombed during the Second World War, and the original Cadorna station was destroyed.
The reconstructed station is connected to a Metro station, making it an integral part of Milan's public transport network. Situated in the north of the city, it is also the station for the Malpensa Express train to Milan's Malpensa airport. As a result, Cadorna Station is often the first point of entry into the city for many foreign visitors.

- Learn about the history of Milan at Sforza Castle. Built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, the Duke of Milan, this castle eventually became one of the largest citadels in Europe. Now open to the public, it is home to several museums, including an Egyptian Museum, a Museum of Ancient Art, and a museum devoted to Michelangelo's final sculpture.
- Get above it all at Branca Tower. This 350-foot tall iron tower was built in the 1930s during Italy's fascist era. The tower itself may not win any beauty awards, but the view from the top is well worth the trip to the panoramic deck. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Alps.
- Explore the underwater world at Milan Civic Aquarium. Built in 1906, this is one of the oldest aquariums in Europe, and offers visitors to this landlocked city a chance to encounter the creatures that live in the sea.
- Admire one of Milan's cultural treasures at the Pinacoteca di Brera. This art gallery is home to masterpieces by Italian artists such as Bramantino, Raphael, Tintoretto, and Caravaggio. It also holds work by non-Italian Masters like Rubens and VanDyke.
- See one of the world's foremost musical venues at the Scala. This opera house was first opened in 1778, and has been regarded as one of the most prestigious concert halls ever since. The best way to see the theater is to get tickets to a performance. But if you can't do that, you can take a tour of the theater that will tell you more about some of the huge names that have performed here.
