Moda Center Bag Policy 2025 - Key Details

A basketball swooshes through the hoop

The Moda Center is the largest and most impressive indoor entertainment venue in Portland, OR. Also known to locals as the "Rose Quarter", it's home to the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers and the WHL's Portland Winterhawks. With a seating capacity of 19,000, it also hosts the largest concerts and events that make stops in Portland.

While basketball and hockey games are certainly a big draw for crowds, the Moda Center is so much more than just a sports venue. Events also include big-ticket concerts, WWE shows, rodeo-style shows, exhibition shows, Monster Truck shows, and more. One look at the upcoming events page shows you just how varied the entertainment is. Music superstars that have played here include Bruce Springsteen, the Jonas Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Backstreet Boys, Blake Shelton, Cher, Lionel Richie, and so many more.

Located at 1 N Center Ct St., Portland in the bustling Rose District just across the river from Downtown Portland, the Moda Center is an integral part of the city’s cultural and entertainment landscape. It’s highly accessible from a variety of transportation options, especially the very “Portland-esque” green transit methods of walking and biking. Depending on what time of year you visit, this is usually the easiest and most enjoyable method of transportation.

And speaking of entertainment and activities in Portland, there's plenty to do here. Whether you enjoy hiking, shopping, grabbing a bite to eat, family-friendly attractions and activities, or a vibrant nightlife, Portland has something for everyone. A few standout attractions include the Oregon Zoo, Portland Art Museum, Oaks Amusement Park, Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and a visit to Pittock Mansion.

While the venue has top-notch amenities, the Moda Center bag policy can be highly limiting, especially for travelers. You’ll want to familiarize yourself with these rules before heading in. If you’re stuck with your luggage or large bags, they won't be allowed in but we've got a solution. Our downtown Portland temporary luggage storage is both convenient and affordable. So let's take a look at all the bag policy details you need to know at this venue.

Bag Policy at Moda Center: What You Need to Know Before You Visit

The Moda Center bag policy is very strict with just about every kind of bag being prohibited depending on size. Any bags or backpacks larger than 14" x 14" x 6" are strictly prohibited. All hard-sided bags are also prohibited. For those who have medical bags, it's best to contact the venue in advance to ask about exceptions.

There is a bag check at Moda Center and it can be found at the P3 Lobby of the GardenGarage. This is directly next to the North Entrance. Be advised that if you have any prohibited items, you can't leave them with the on-site bag check. The bag check can fill up fast, and the location may not be ideal depending on what gate you need to enter. Instead, you can count on our temporary Portland luggage storage near the Moda Center as a better, more convenient option.

Final Useful Tips When Going to Moda Center

The Moda Center is located in the Rose Quarter area of Portland near the banks of the Willamette River. It’s easily accessible from downtown and other central neighborhoods. The arena is accessible via major highways like I-5 and I-84, but the roads tend to be incredibly busy. Not only that, but parking is hard to come by and goes up in price on event days.

The city's MAX Light Rail system is reliable, affordable, and convenient. This is probably the best way to reach the Moda Center. You can use the Red, Blue, or Green lines, all of which have stops near the venue. The Rose Quarter Transit Center is right next to the arena, making it steps away from your train to the arena gates.

If you're staying at a hotel in downtown Portland, it's about a 20-minute walk to the venue. You'll get a little exercise in while getting to check out the sights of the city.

The venue has designated drop-off and pick-up locations for rideshares and taxis if you choose this option.

Tickets have switched over from hard copies to an entirely electronic system, so you'll need the Trail Blazers or Rose Quarter mobile app for entry. For most events, gates generally open 90 minutes prior to tip-off for games. Certain onsite bars and restaurants open two and a half hours prior to the start of an event.

The Moda Center has gone completely cash-free, so you’ll need a credit or debit card to make purchases at the concession and vendor stations. Mobile payment methods like Google Pay and Apple Pay are also accepted. There are also reverse ATMs throughout the arena to convert cash into a VISA card.

No animals are allowed in the Moda Center except for service animals.
