An interior picture of a Minnesota Twins night game at Target Field

Are you heading to Minneapolis with tickets to attend an event at Target Field? If so, you're likely getting excited for the big day but just like with other big venues across the country, Target Field has a bag policy in place that you'll need to know about.

Located at 1 Twins Way, Minneapolis, Target Field is the home stadium for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Minnesota Twins. The Twins have won the World Series title several times and are known for putting on a good show for fans. For those reasons, this ultra-modern 40,000-seat stadium is usually a hot ticket.

But it's not just baseball at this fully outdoor ballpark, the venue is versatile and hosts all kinds of entertainment events year-round. Some of the artists who have performed concerts at Target Field include Pink, Green Day, the Zac Brown Band, Journey, the Eagles, and Billy Joel to name a few.

Target Field is also conveniently located in the former warehouse district of downtown Minneapolis, which means it's near other standout attractions and highlights. Maybe you want to grab a meal before the baseball game or event, do a little shopping, or sightseeing in downtown Minneapolis. Some of the cooler attractions to visit include the Mill City Museum, Calhoun Square, Guthrie Theater, the Science Museum of Minnesota, farmers markets, and breweries.

Before you head to Target Field to watch the Minnesota Twins or any other event, be sure to take the time to go over this guide detailing the bag policy. Because there are some types and sizes of bags prohibited from entering the venue, you may need a backup plan for bag storage, and we can certainly help you with that!

Bag Policy at Target Field: What You Need to Know Before You Visit

The bag policy for regular-season games includes bag type and bag size restrictions. Security staff will check all bags coming into the park. Single-compartment bags with a maximum size of 16" x 16" x 8" are allowed. Guests can bring small clutch purses, single-compartment tote bags, fanny packs, drawstring bags, diaper bags, clear bags, single-compartment soft-sided coolers, and bags containing medically necessary items (must be for legitimate medical purposes).

Bags not allowed into Target Field include multi-compartment laptop bags, those that exceed bag size restriction, hard-sided containers, and duffel bags. As you'd expect, it's recommended you don't come with a bag so that you can speed up entry into the park.

There is some on-site bag storage available, and it is meant for prohibited bags. The bag storage is located near the Target Field Station and Gate 6. It is free to use, but with that said, there is limited space so it's first-come first-serve. This is why we stress booking luggage storage with us as soon as you get Twins tickets.

Policies to Keep In Mind When Going to Nationals Park

The bag regulations are the one you'll probably be most concerned with, but there are other rules and restrictions in terms of what's allowed into Target Field. Minnesota Twins fans will speed up the entry process by knowing these policies.

Strict Rules Allow for Some Outside Food and Beverage at Target Field

When it comes to outside food and drinks, there are some things to keep in mind. The only outside beverages permitted are a sealed bottled water, no bigger than 32 oz., milk containers, or soft-sided single juice containers for kids.

If you want to bring food, it is also allowed but it can't be stored in hard-sided containers. The food you bring on game days also needs to fit under your seat in a soft-sided container. Your own food needs to be eaten at your seat.

You may want to purchase food at the concession stands instead, and then not worry about the rules.

There Is a List of Prohibited Items at Target Field

There are several prohibited items at Target Field, but you can also check with the guest service center in advance if you have questions. Prohibited items include weapons, hard-sided coolers, laser pointers, lawn chairs, beach balls, and noise-making devices.

Bring Your Camera to Target Field

Taking pictures at Twins games is also allowed, as long as you're not using a professional camera. You also can't use a multi-compartment camera bag. Guests aren't allowed to use monopods or tripods.

Final Useful Tips When Going to Target Field

If you have plans of driving to Target Field, you're going to want to look into preferred game day parking. You can reserve and pay for the spot in advance, and it's available at the Hawthorne Ramp and ramps A, B, and C.

Public transportation is another option, as there is a light rail station and the Northstar Train station outside the stadium. You can also use the Metro Blue Line and Green Line.

Visiting Target Field with very young children or even older kids may seem stressful but the stadium goes out of its way to make it a great experience. They offer such family-friendly features as kids' meals at the concession stand, baby changing tables in family restrooms, allowing for childcare bags/diaper bags in the venue, and nursing rooms.

All Target Field gates open one hour before the scheduled first pitch/game time for the Minnesota Twins. So you want to give yourself enough time to get through security, but not arrive too early. Make sure you've got your valid ticket with you.
