Two empty beach chairs and a closed umbrella on the white sand of Langkawi island

Langkawi Island

There’s a pristine beach at every corner of this popular island destination in the Andaman Sea. You’ll want to head inland at some point, and there are hiking trails through the rainforests where you can work up a sweat. You can also go the leisurely route by taking a cable car up to the top of Gunung Mat Cincang mountain for epic views of Langkawi and even other islands on the archipelago.

There are luxury resorts along with smaller villages offering a peek into traditional Malaysian culture. The markets, in particular, are well worth a visit. The crowds are always manageable on the beaches but don't expect a completely quiet or secluded beach here. Even the lukewarm water will feel refreshing after your adventures through the heat and humidity.

If you’re taking a plane to reach Langkawi for a few days, you can simplify your travels by leaving excess bags (especially ones you won’t want anywhere near all that sand and water) with Bounce back in the city. You can manage your reservation so that they’ll be ready for pick-up as soon as you get back to Kuala Lumpur!
