Kauffman Stadium Bag Policy 2025 - Key Details

A fan waves a Kansas City Royals flag inside the Kauffman Stadium

When it comes to live sports action in Kansas City, MO, the Kauffman Stadium, or the “The K,” as it is affectionately known by locals, is the place to be. The Kauffman Stadium is an open-air baseball stadium that is home to the Major League Baseball Club, Kansas City Royals. The stadium seats nearly 38,000 baseball fans for Royals’ home games and is part of the Truman Sports Complex. This complex also includes nearby Arrowhead Stadium, which is the home football field of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Located at 1 Royal Way, in Kansas City the venue does a great job at providing a more intimate vibe during games. Maybe it's the open-air layout or the fact it doesn't seat as many fans as some of the bigger stadiums. You'll feel like you're part of the action and like one of the locals cheering on the home team.

But if baseball isn't your thing, you'll sometimes find other events taking place at the venue. Over the years there have been some big concerts that have taken place at Kauffman Stadium including Guns N' Roses, Def Leppard, and Billy Joel. Because it's an open-air stadium, it is primarily used during the spring and summer months by the Kansas City Royals, so the events calendar can be limited.

Spending an afternoon or evening at Kauffman Stadium is a guaranteed good time, but it's not the only highlight in Kansas City. Whether you're here just for the Kansas City Royals, a short layover, or some extra time in the city, there's so much to see and do. We encourage you to take the time to explore the local attractions, shops, bars, and restaurants. Some of the more popular attractions in Kansas City include the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, Science City at Union Station, American Jazz Museum, Hallmark Visitors Center, The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

But before you head to Kauffman Stadium, make sure you're well aware of the venue's bag policy and additional rules. This is especially important if you plan on going straight from the airport to the ballpark with all your luggage. Our temporary luggage storage in Kansas City may be exactly what you need when it comes to the Kauffman Stadium bag policy. So let's dive in and look at all the specifics.

Bag Policy at Kauffman Stadium: What You Need to Know Before You Visit

The Kauffman Stadium bag policy allows guests to bring one clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag into the stadium. The clear bag cannot be larger than 12” x 12” x 6”. Items inside, easily visible without compartments and hidden areas, are required. Guests can use one-gallon freezer bags, such as a Ziploc bag.

Small clutch bags and clutch purses that don't exceed 9” x 5”, including all handles and straps are allowed inside Kauffman Stadium. The small clutch bag or purse doesn't need to be a clear plastic bag.

There is an exception for medical bags required for medical reasons and diaper bags. It's best to speak to Kauffman Stadium staff in advance if you have questions about the bag policy.

Be advised there is no on-site locker storage or a place to check oversized bags. Any items that don't fit within the bag policy will need to be left elsewhere. This is exactly what our temporary bag storage in Kansas City offers, giving you a convenient solution.

Policies to Keep In Mind When Going to Kauffman Stadium

Dealing with the bag inspection policy is only part of what you need to know. There are other rules and policies in place when passing through the stadium gates. Let's take a look at those, as well as some helpful tips for those attending Royals games or any other events.

You Can Bring Some Outside Food Items Into Kauffman Stadium

The Kauffman Stadium food policy is slightly less strict than the bag one. Fans can bring in outside food if it fits into your single one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag. The food must also be in individual portions.

As for drinks, the stadium permits one clear plastic (sealed) bottle of water per person that is one liter or smaller. Water bottles must be sealed and unfrozen as well. Milk containers and soft-sided single-juice containers are also allowed.

The following items are prohibited in the ballpark:

  • Hard-sided coolers
  • Soft-sided coolers
  • Outside alcoholic beverages
  • Non-clear liquid containers

If you’re not the type to pack food with you, the Kauffman Stadium food options certainly won’t disappoint.

Go Ahead and Take All the Pictures You Want at Kauffman Stadium

For anyone looking to snap some pics at the Kansas City Royals game or other events, the Kauffman Stadium camera policy only prohibits cameras with lenses that are longer than 12”. So your cell phone, point-and-shoot camera, or even a larger camera with small to mid-size lenses are permitted. Just don’t bring your camera bag unless it's a clear bag that is smaller than 12” x 12” x 6”.

Final Useful Tips When Going to Kauffman Stadium

Wondering how to get to Kauffman Stadium? That’s easy. The ballpark is located southeast of downtown, just off the I-70. Parking is relatively easy at Kauffman Stadium, and it's recommended Royals fans purchase parking passes in advance. It is also cheaper if you purchase the pass in advance, and then you are guaranteed a spot at one of the parking lots.

Public transportation is a great option for getting to the ballpark. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) operates express bus service to and from the stadium. You’ll want to use the Metro’s 47-Broadway route, which links the stadium to downtown, Midtown, the East Side, and Blue Ridge Crossing. On game days, service runs until 11 pm.

Rideshare and taxi services are also available, with a pickup and drop-off point at Kauffman Stadium in the middle of parking lot Lot A.

Some of the Kauffman Stadium policies we’ve discussed so far are a little harder to follow than others, and here are a few more things to keep in mind about the stadium’s permitted items and rules:

  • There is no re-entry if you exit the stadium after you’ve already gone in.
  • For weekend games (Friday to Sunday), all gates open 90 minutes before the first pitch. For Monday to Thursday games, the gates only open 60 minutes before the game starts. If there's a gameday giveaway, all gates open 90 minutes ahead of the game, regardless of the day of the week.
  • Banners and signs are allowed as long as there are no large sticks or poles attached to them.
  • Prohibited items include laser pens, unmanned aerial vehicles, oversized bags, luggage, baseball bats, beach balls, items that could be projectiles, weapons (guns), aerosol cans, and flags with sticks.
  • Pets aren't allowed in the stadium except for service animals.
