For other countries, you will have to apply at an embassy before landing in Dubai.
Minimum layover times in Dubai
- In-airport short layover:
- Domestic flights: 60-90 minutes
If you're just catching another Emirate flight, the process is pretty smooth, and you don't need additional security checks or fiddling around with luggage. Everyone who arrives at Dubai International Airport has to go through customs, so just make sure everything’s in order. - International flights: 90-120 minutes
UAE and GCC residents can use Smart Gates with their biometric passports to speed through security checkpoints. If you're flying out of the UAE, you'll have to go through additional passport control. Once that’s done, you can use the Dubai Metro to switch terminals quickly. - In-airport long layover: 3 hrs
Need to buy a quick gift? This Dubai airport has fashion stores like Gucci, electronic shops like Dyson, and places to buy genuine cigars. If you have a few hours because of a long layover, you can also find some familiar food joints in all three terminals. KFC, Burger King, and Starbucks are always around for a quick snack. For some R&R, there's the G-Force Health Club, an airport lounge in every terminal, spas, and gaming centers. - Out-of-airport layover: 5 hrs
Want to explore the city during your Dubai layover? Buses connect the city with the airport seamlessly. You will have to get the Nol card at the airport since public transport doesn't accept cash. But when you do, the whole city is right at your fingertips while you're waiting for your next flight!
