Comerica Park Bag Policy: The Ultimate Handbook

Comerica Park bag policy

For those visiting the city of Detroit, Comerica Park is the place for sports lovers. The stadium was opened in 2000 and is home to the Major League Baseball club - Detroit Tigers. The stadium seats 41,000 which means a typical Tigers game gets the crowd going quite a bit. And it's not just the Detroit Tigers that use this stadium. Comerica Park also hosts concerts, shows, and other big-ticket events.

What makes this stadium memorable and unique is the backdrop. When fans are seated they can see the baseball-shaped Fly Ball Ferris Wheel on the third base side of the park. There is also the Hi-Chew Carousel in the entry of section 119. It's like taking everything you know and love about a classic ballpark and then adding some amusement park fun into the mix.

The stadium is located in downtown Detroit, making it perfect for locals and tourists. It even manages to attract baseball fans from nearby Windsor, Canada.

If you’re traveling into Detroit for a game or show, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the bag policy so that there are no surprises at the gate. If you have luggage of any sort, you won't be able to take it into the stadium. So let's take a look at all the important details.

Comerica Park bag policy details

Comerica Park Bag Policy Specifics

Comerica Park has a no-bag policy, which means there are no permitted bags. All backpacks, purses, clutches, and briefcases are prohibited. Medical and diaper bags are the only exceptions to the rule. Included in that category are also breast pumps and medical necessities. If you have a question about other medical devices and what items can be packed in diaper bags and medical bags, it's best to contact the guest services office.

Only small single-compartment bags, wallets, and clutches smaller than 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches are permitted. Bags and clutches larger than this won't be allowed in.

Every bag will also be subject to a bag search, even those smaller than 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches and medical or diaper bags. Items deemed inappropriate won't be allowed in.

A Family-Friendly Ballpark

Comerica Park is a family-friendly venue so that means there are several amenities aimed at families. You will find nursing pods, baby changing tables in all restrooms, family restrooms, and children three and under aren't required to have a ticket. Instead, they can sit on the lap of a ticketed guest as long as they don't get in the way or interfere with other guests' enjoyment.

And, as mentioned above, diaper and medical bags are permitted into the ballpark, so don't worry if you have these items or if someone in your family has a medical necessity that requires specific items.

Camera Policy

Point-and-shoot cameras, including disposable and polaroid models, are allowed in the park so long as they don’t have detachable lenses. Professional equipment like tripods, monopods, detachable lenses, and video recording devices all require a media credential, according to the Comerica Park camera policy.

Prohibited Items

The list of prohibited items is rather long and can be found in the guest code of conduct. It's all about proper etiquette at games and events. These are in effect for all Tigers home games, and most other events too. Here's a look at some of them.

  • Sound recording devices
  • Air horns and other noisemakers
  • Beach balls
  • Interchangeable or detachable lenses
  • Outside alcoholic beverages
  • E-cigarettes
