La Folle Journée is a classical music festival created so everyone can enjoy beautiful classical tunes due to its shorter and affordable concerts. It started in 1995 in Nantes, France, when René Martin had a big idea: to make classical music fun, easy, and exciting for a wider audience. Over the years, it has become one of the most popular music festivals, with thousands of happy visitors each year.

"La Folle Journée" means "The Crazy Day" in French. It comes from a famous old story called The Marriage of Figaro by Beaumarchais, where wild and surprising things happen in just one day! That’s just like the festival—packed with exciting concerts, surprise performances, and fun activities all around the city. The festival became so popular that it even traveled across the world, to places such as Japan, Spain, and Russia.

What to Expect When Attending La Folle Journée 2025

Each edition revolves around a specific theme, exploring particular composers, styles, or musical eras. The 2025 La Folle Journée theme casts light on Villes Phares, meaning key cities that shaped the evolution of classical music: Venice, London, Vienna, Paris, and New York.

Over five days, artists will perform in around 300 concerts. You'll be able to listen to many different performances since each will last around 45 minutes.

This event is suitable for all ages, and children are welcome. Some concerts are specifically designed for younger audiences!

Expect workshops, meet-the-artist sessions, and exhibits that enhance your appreciation of the music.

Be sure to dress appropriately, as February in Nantes is known for its cold weather. During the day, temperatures are expected to range from 10 C to 12 C (50 F to 54 F), with lows around 4 C to 6 C (39 F to 43 F).

• Car: You can drive to the venue. La Cité des Congrès has nearby paid parking lots such as Parking Gare Sud 2 and Parking Cité des Congrès. Arrive early, as spots can fill up quickly during the festival.
