Art Deco Weekend 2025

The countdown to the 48th Art Deco Weekend in the city of Miami Beach has started!

Art Deco Weekend is a celebrated cultural event created 48 years ago by the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL). The festival was initiated to raise awareness and advocate for preserving the unique Art Deco architecture in Miami Beach, particularly the buildings lining Ocean Drive and the surrounding areas.

Art Deco was an international decorative style from 1919 to 1939. Initially known as "le style moderne" or "Jazz Moderne," the style received its current name in 1968 during scholarly reappraisal. Art Deco was first developed in France through an exposition held in 1925. The exciting array of works on display included different avant-garde, luxurious, and lighthearted artistic modes.

After 1925, designs increasingly reflected the period's rapid artistic and technological innovations between the two world wars, incorporating chic elegance and eclectic historical and national imagery. Art Deco originated in a time of intense aesthetic experimentation; art movements such as the Bauhaus, Constructivism, Cubism, Futurism, and Surrealism helped define the style's inherent modernism!

From January 18 to 20, prepare for three days that showcase the beautiful Art Deco buildings of South Beach!

What to Expect When Attending Art Deco Weekend 2025

Knowledgeable guides will provide guided tours that will allow you to explore the famous Art Deco District and learn about the buildings' history and design elements.

Fashion shows will feature vintage or Art Deco-inspired clothing. All visitors are encouraged to dress in 1920s-1940s attire.

There will also be vintage car shows where you can admire beautifully restored automobiles from the Art Deco era. In addition, at historical exhibits, you can learn more about vintage cars and the evolution of design during the early 20th century.

Lectures and Panels will be organized. Topics range from architectural preservation to the influence of Art Deco in modern design. Film Screenings will be valuable if you want to learn about the Art Deco movement while watching period films or documentaries!
