About MARTA

Officially known as the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, MARTA is a major transit system in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It opened as a bus station in 1971 and now features a bus system, light rail, and rapid transit system. The MARTA train has four service lines, which include the Green, Blue, Gold, and Red Lines. The bus routes have 48 miles of track and 38 stations. The light rail consists of the Atlanta Streetcar that loops through Downtown Atlanta. 

MARTA is the eighth largest train system in the United States. In fact, it serves over 430,000 passengers a year. The transit system is the perfect way to get around the city since it has stations within walking distance to hundreds of attractions. Some of these include the Atlanta History Center, Ansley Park, CNN Center, and the Georgia Capitol. 

If you want to do some shopping while you are in town, MARTA will take you to hundreds of stores and malls all over Atlanta. Some of the most popular include the Ansley Mall, Sage Hill Shopping Center, Perimeter Mall, and the Edgewood Retail District. If you like antiques, try the Chamblee Antique Row at the Chamblee Station. You can also visit Centennial Olympic Park, Freedom Park, Washington Park, or one of the other two dozen parks along the MARTA line.

Luggage Storage Near Atlanta Botanical Garden

Learn more about the flora of Atlanta at the Atlanta Botanical Garden on Piedmont Avenue Northeast, just two miles from MARTA. The 30-acre garden has thousands of species of flowers, plants, and trees to see. Open since 1976, the park has been a gathering place for locals as well as visitors with weekly shows, concerts, and a famous orchid center with a rare collection of orchids. The Chapman Fuqua Conservatory is another great place to visit in the garden where they have a display of amphibians. See the Lemur leaf frog of Costa Rica and blue frogs of South America. The 16,000 square-foot building also has plants from around the world in the Tropical Rotunda, Desert House, and the Orangerie, where they have citrus, coffee, and cocoa plants. Luggage Storage Near Pemberton Place

The 20-acre Pemberton Place on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard Northwest is just three miles from the station. Inside the park, you can visit the World of Coca-Cola, which has a huge museum with a delivery truck from 1939 and an 1880s soda fountain as well as a bunch of other cool stuff. You can even get a selfie with the Coca-Cola polar bear. Right next door, the Georgia Aquarium has the world’s largest tank with 10 million gallons of water. See manta rays, dolphins, sea lions, whales, and sharks. Some other displays include otters, penguins, puffins, and sea dragons. The Center for Civil and Human Rights is also right in the park where you can learn about the human rights movement and see personal papers from Martin Luther King Junior. Grab your camera out of your bag before leaving it with one of our Bounce affiliates on the way there.

If you like animals, head to Zoo Atlanta on Cherokee Avenue Southeast, less than 10 miles from the station. They have more than 1,500 animals from over 220 species to visit and learn about. Starting in the Asian Forest, you can see the giant pandas, clouded leopards, and tigers as well as the Komodo dragons and sun bears. In the African Rainforest, the gorillas, orangutans, monkeys, and lemurs will entertain you. The Kid Zone is not just for kids. You can feed and pet the goats and sheep and see the alpacas, tamarins, sloths, and hundreds of birds. Don’t miss the COOP Food Truck and Pandamonium gift shop in the Grand Patio. If you want some pizza, Twiga Terrace has Willie B’s Pizza and Snacks and the OOZ Food Truck by the lions, rhinos, giraffes, and elephants. They even have a beer garden. But make sure you stop by one of our Bounce spots to drop off your luggage first.
