- Fremantle Prison: Frequently referred to as the Fremantle Jail or Fremantle Gaol, this former Australian prison sits on just over 14 acres. Learn about the 1988 prison riot where guards were taken hostage, and the prison was set on fire. The prison was originally built to house convicts that were transported from Britain but was handed over to the Australian government in 1886.
