The striking Art Nouveau façade of Gare de Rouen, also known as Rouen-Rive-Droit, has been a feature of this charming French city since 1928 when it replaced the previous station dating back to 1847. As one of the major cities in Normandy in the north of France, Rouen is well-connected to several cities throughout the country, including a high-speed TGV connection that links the station with legendary destinations like Versailles, Lyon, and Marseille. That makes this historic town relatively easy to reach from just about anywhere in France, and even beyond.
And thanks to a fairly central location close to the historic heart of town with its Gothic architecture, it's not hard to explore Rouen almost as soon as you arrive at the station. Leave your bags behind at one of the nearby luggage storage facilities, and you'll be able to explore this beautiful city in comfort.
These days, luggage storage can be hard to find in many train stations, partly for security reasons. While some French stations do have luggage storage, others don't.
Fortunately, you can always find a convenient alternative to luggage storage lockers with Bounce. By partnering with local shops and businesses, we make it possible to store luggage wherever you are.
Many of the major train stations in Paris offer luggage storage facilities near or in the station itself. However, you can make a trip out of the city easier by planning to store your luggage with the best luggage storage Rouen has to offer. If you're planning to take the train from Paris to Rouen train station, you can leave your luggage near your Paris train station or bring it with you when you visit Rouen. Rouen offers plenty of places where you can leave bags and suitcases behind.
It's possible to keep your luggage in the station's baggage room for 72 hours. However, the baggage room has limited space, so if you have big bags or want to leave them for longer, you may need to make other arrangements for your luggage storage.
It's not always easy to find a museum that will be a hit with kids as well as adults. But natural history museums are often great options for traveling families, as they provide an experience that's usually as fun as it is educational.
Rouen's Natural History Museum is no exception. Founded in the 19th century and located in a 17th-century convent, the museum has been thrilling locals and visitors alike with its fascinating exhibitions for generations. The museum displays a variety of animal and plant specimens from around the world, along with some anthropological displays of various cultures, allowing you to take a trip around the world without leaving Normandy.
Unfortunately, the luggage storage facilities at the museum are extremely limited. While you can leave coats and small bags behind in the cloakroom, large suitcases will not be welcome. The best thing to do is to find a place to store luggage before you go so that you don't have to worry once you get there.
One of the most recognizable historic buildings in Rouen, this tower is an icon of the city and a great place to explore for anyone with an interest in history. Just a short walk away from the train station, it's one of the main points of the old town where you can begin your exploration of this fascinating city.
The tower was once part of a castle that has since been destroyed. Dating back to the 13th century, the tower is particularly notable for having once imprisoned legendary French female warrior Joan of Arc. You'll find tributes to this young woman, one of the biggest figures in French history, just about everywhere in the city, and if you want to learn more about her extraordinary story, this is a great place to do it.
The tower also features an escape game, along with other immersive experiences that involve costumed interpreters guiding you through the turbulent history of the castle and the city. All in all, it's one of the best places in the city center to get in touch with the rich history of the region, and it's an attraction that should be at the top of anybody's list of things to do in Rouen.
It's not a great idea to bring big bags to this fascinating ruin. Although there are small lockers where you can leave your belongings before participating in the escape game, the storage lockers only offer very limited space. A better idea is to take advantage of the luggage storage facilities near the tower where you can store your luggage while you step back into the past.
Gare de Rouen is close enough to the heart of the old town that once you leave your bags behind in a Rouen luggage storage, you'll easily be able to explore the city on foot. However, if you would prefer to save yourself some walking, you'll be glad to know that Rouen train station functions as the hub of the city's public transportation network, making it easy to reach all the top attractions in and near Rouen from here.
Rouen may not be a coastal town, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a proud maritime history. Located on the river Seine, Rouen has been a major center of trade in France for centuries, and you can learn more about this rich history at the city's Maritime Museum.
There are a couple of different ways to reach the museum from Rouen train station. For example, you can walk from the station to Theatre des Arts Metro station in around 17 minutes, then take line T1 to Luciline station. From there, it's another 14-minute walk to the museum.
If that sounds like too much walking for you, you can find Gare Rue Verte just a couple of hundred meters from Rouen train station. From there, you can take the Metro to Theatre des Arts. Once you're there, walk a couple of hundred meters to the Gare Routiere or bus station and catch number 530 to Mont-Riboudet. That will leave you with a walk of about 13 minutes to the museum itself. All in all, this journey will take a little over half an hour, depending on how quickly you can make the necessary connections.
Currently, a single trip on either Metro or bus costs €1.70 for an adult. The ticket is valid for one hour, so you can make multiple transfers within that time. However, if you plan to take public transport a lot, a 24-hour card valid on the Metro and the bus network is only five euros and may be a better bet.
If you would rather get a taste of nature and take a break in some beautiful surroundings while exploring the city, Rouen Botanical Garden is the perfect place to go. Getting to the botanical garden from Rouen train station couldn't be much easier. Walk a couple of hundred meters from the train station to Gare-Rue Verte, then take the Metro to Europe station. From there, it's a short walk of less than a kilometer before you find yourself in the dappled shade of the botanical garden, enjoying the thousands of species of plants you'll find here.
Although it's located relatively close to Paris, Rouen doesn't get anything like the tourist numbers of the City of Light. But maybe that's a good thing. And with plenty of places offering luggage storage near the station, it's easy to travel light. This endlessly walkable city rewards leaving the bags behind, so don't forget to store your luggage before diving into everything Rouen has to offer.
