While a relative newcomer on the international stage, Dubai is a city that's always pushing boundaries. It strives for bigger and better things, which means there's always something new and exciting to see and do.
At this point, you can’t mention Dubai without first thinking of the iconic Burj Khalifa. The tallest building in the world is the crown jewel of Dubai’s skyline, and a trip to this city without visiting the Burj Khalifa would be a missed opportunity. Luckily, this imposing skyscraper is well-situated in downtown Dubai, with some of the city’s best attractions within a short walk.
If you’re exploring downtown Dubai and visiting landmark attractions like Burj Khalifa, you’ll need a place to store luggage during your adventures. Luckily, luggage storage services like Bounce have locations all over the city.
Here’s everything you need to know about luggage storage in Dubai:
Completed in 2010, the Burj Khalifa stands at a staggering height of 2,716 feet and has 160 floors. This iconic building's design was inspired by Islamic architecture and features a distinctive spire-like design, which is part of the reason this building is so famous. The other reason is that this is the tallest building in the world and is home to the world's highest observation deck. Known as the At the Top observation deck, it’s located on the 124th floor. Visitors can take an elevator ride to the top and fathom the panoramic views of the surrounding city and desert. Somehow, there is an even higher observation deck on the 148th floor called the At the Top SKY.
The building has several luxury hotels (the building is THAT big), residential apartments, and even corporate offices. The Armani Hotel Dubai is the most notable business located in Burj Khalifa, occupying several floors and offering famously luxurious accommodations and amenities. The structure’s most impressive feature might be its elaborate lighting system, which illuminates the building with different colors and patterns throughout the day and night. During special occasions, festivals, and religious holidays, the building’s lighting will be synchronized with music for a choreographed light show the whole city can see.
There is limited luggage storage inside the Burj Khalifa, and you’ll want to find a place to store bags before you head to the observation deck (in case you have a few hours before check-in). Luckily, Bounce has a dedicated luggage storage location near the Burj Khalifa, which can also serve as a “home base” for exploring the many nearby attractions.
This is one of the largest shopping malls in the world, and the 1,200 stores are hardly even the start of what this place offers. While everything from luxury brands to high-street retailers are on offer, this mall also offers attractions like the Dubai Aquarium, an indoor theme park, a movie theater, and even an ice rink.
This island is man-made in the shape of a palm tree, and it sits out in the Arabian Gulf, providing visitors with spectacular views of the skyline and waterfront. There’s a beach on the island for swimming and sunbathing, along with bars, restaurants, and cafes lining the waterfront.
This waterfront development is home to luxury apartments, hotels, and restaurants. Take a walk and enjoy some of the best views of the skyline and the Arabian Gulf. Visitors can also enjoy a yacht ride or grab a splashy meal at one of the many upscale waterfront restaurants. It’s a great place to spend a few hours.
The indoor ski resort is located inside the Mall of the Emirates in downtown Dubai. For obvious reasons, skiing in the desert is a novel experience, to say the least. Visitors can ski, snowboard, or even try tobogganing in this indoor park’s machine-made (but real) snow. There is equipment rental for travelers that don’t want to pack their own skis in extra bags. There are limited left luggage facilities onsite at the customer service desk.
Due to the city’s modernity, Dubai Creek offers a welcome opportunity to explore Dubai’s past as a trading hub. This historic waterway cuts through the city, and is flanked on both sides by souks (colorful bartering markets). Visitors can take an abra (a small traditional boat) ride across the creek to explore souks or stop along the riverfront at one of the many restaurants overlooking the water.
The metro is a fast and efficient way to get around Dubai, with air-conditioned trains and affordable fares. The best way to get to Burj Khalifa is by taking the Dubai Metro Red Line to the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station and then walking to the entrance of the tower. This is the same way to get to Burj Khalifa from Dubai International Airport.
Taxis are everywhere in downtown Dubai. They offer reasonable rates, and most drivers speak English. Most hotel front desks will call a taxi, or travelers can book their own ride using apps like Uber or Careem. Uber might be easier, given you can find a ride, know your rate, and get a booking confirmation ahead of time.
Buses are the best option for budget travelers, with routes and bus stations that cover most of the city, particularly downtown Dubai. When the temperatures reach their peak, even walkable trips can be shortened by a quick bus ride at minimum cost.
Dubai also has a water taxi system (called abras) that offers a novel experience with some convenience. Traditional abras allow visitors to explore the city's waterways, especially Dubai Creek. You can take an abra out into the gulf for epic views of the skyline. You’ll definitely want to find a luggage storage service before you get on the boat.
If you’re exploring downtown Dubai and visiting the Burj Khalifa, you won’t want to be lugging around your heavy bags in that famously oppressive heat. Luckily, Bounce has convenient luggage storage facilities at the Dubai Mall, Dubai Airport, and the GGICO Station. For a VERY convenient place to store luggage, stop by the spot at the Burj Khalifa before you head up to the tallest observation deck in the world.
