More than 100,000 people visit here every day, and on the weekends, it's more like 150,000, which gives this place a population comparable to that of a medium-sized city.
Opened in 1993 close to the city's bustling port, the mall was envisioned as a destination for low and medium-budget shoppers as opposed to luxury clientele. In the years since it has become one of the top attractions in Cebu City and has revitalized this part of town.
With seven levels of shopping to explore, it's easy to end up carrying a lot of things around this busy mall. To get to the mall from the Cebu City port terminal, all you need to do is take bus 10H. The bus stops at B. Benedicto Street, which is around a 15-minute walk from the port, and it will take you to the mall in about 10 minutes.

Bus route 12 L runs from Pier 6, just outside the shopping center, to Santo Nino Barangay Hall. From there, you can walk to Magellan's Cross in just a couple of minutes. The whole journey shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes or so, depending on how long you have to wait for the bus.
Just a short walk from Magellan's Cross, the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is another significant historical and religious site near SM City Cebu. This basilica is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, established in the 16th century on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was found during the Spanish expedition led by Miguel López de Legazpi.
The statue, originally given to Queen Juana by Magellan, is considered the oldest religious relic in the Philippines. The Basilica is a stunning example of Spanish colonial architecture, with its coral stone structure and antique, ornate altar. Fort San Pedro, located approximately 2.5 kilometers from SM City Cebu, is the smallest and oldest tri-bastion fort in the Philippines. This historical military defense structure was built by the Spanish under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi in the 16th century. Originally constructed from wood, it was later rebuilt in stone to fend off pirates and invaders.
Today, Fort San Pedro serves as a museum and park, offering a tranquil escape with its lush gardens, well-preserved walls, and artifacts that tell the story of Cebu's past. Fort San Pedro lies in the same area of downtown Cebu as the Basilica and Magellan's Cross. Therefore, bus route 12 L can get you here, just as it can to the other attractions. You'll want to get off at stop Pier 2, so the journey time from SM City is a little shorter at only around 15 minutes. Because these attractions are so close together, it's easy to visit all three of them in a single trip.
Tops Lookout offers one of the most breathtaking views in Cebu City, located about 20 kilometers from SM City Cebu. Perched on the hills of Busay, it provides a panoramic vista of Cebu City, the surrounding islands, and the vast sea stretching into the horizon, especially stunning at sunset or at night when the city lights sparkle below.
The lookout is designed with circular stone walls and towers, reminiscent of a medieval fort, adding to the charm of the place. It's a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts, romantic evenings, or anyone wishing to escape for a bit. The cool mountain air and the serene atmosphere make Tops Lookout an ideal location for picnics, gatherings, or quiet reflection. Although the drive up the mountain is a bit challenging, the breathtaking scenery and peaceful surroundings at the top are well worth the effort.
Because it lies outside the city itself, this attraction is a little more difficult to get to. Public transportation could take as much as two hours, so this might be a better option if you can take a guided tour or even rent your own vehicle.
SM City Cebu is a shopper's paradise. But thanks to its fairly central location, it's also a great place for travellers to get their first taste of the city.
