Let's be honest: when visiting an exciting place like Abu Dhabi, the airport probably isn't the thing you're going to get most excited about. However, if you're arriving from overseas, it's something you're going to have to put up with if you want to explore everything the United Arab Emirates has to offer. Located just over 16 miles (or 30 km) east of the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi Airport, also known as Zayed International Airport, welcomes around five million passengers each year to this fascinating city-state.
There are luggage storage facilities at Abu Dhabi Airport. You can find luggage storage services in both Terminal One and Terminal Three. However, this baggage storage is often busy, so you may need to find a more convenient luggage storage service elsewhere.
Yes, you can store luggage at Abu Dhabi International Airport and then head out to enjoy Abu Dhabi city. However, it may be more convenient and cheaper to find an Abu Dhabi luggage storage facility in the city that can hold any size of bags you like for as long as you need, like Bounce.
It's possible to leave Abu Dhabi airport during a layover. However, you'll need a fairly long layover to make it worthwhile. If you're spending more than eight hours in the city, you will need a transit visa before you will be allowed to leave the airport.
At Bounce Luggage storage facilities, which are located near the Abu Dhabi Airport you can store luggage for as long as you need. There is no time limit, so whether you just need to be rid of your stuff for a few hours or even a week, we can take care of the bags.
A 24-hour shuttle bus connects Abu Dhabi International Airport with Ibn Battuta Mall in neighboring Dubai. It takes an hour and a half to make the journey, with buses leaving on the hour every hour.
Depending on where you're going, it might make sense to take one of the municipal buses from Zayed Airport into the city itself.
Bus routes include:
Taxis provide an easy and convenient way to get from the airport to the city and vice versa. Taxi fares are set by the government, and you can expect to pay AED 25 just to start the meter, followed by AED 1.60 for every kilometer after that. That means you can expect a taxi to the city to cost you around 73 AED. You can find taxis waiting at convenient locations outside the main terminals, and they provide probably the quickest way to get to the city if you have a few hours to explore.
Located just seven minutes from Abu Dhabi and its transportation hubs, this beautiful golf course feels like it's much further from the second-largest airport in the UAE than it really is. If you only have a couple of hours to spend, this is a great place to get some exercise and play either nine or 18 holes on one of the world's largest sand golf courses. Its convenient location makes it a popular choice for travelers on a tight schedule, so take advantage of the luggage storage options in and near the airport and give this course a try for yourself.
The golf course clubhouse has lockers and changing rooms where you can leave your things safely behind. However, the lockers aren't particularly big, and if you show up with all your checked baggage, you're probably not going to make yourself many new friends. Instead, take advantage of Bounce storage locations in local shops and businesses so you can leave your things behind and enjoy Abu Dhabi.
This branch of the Parisien art museum, one of the world's most visited museums, is a true cultural highlight of Abu Dhabi and makes a fantastic place to while away a few hours. Located in a beautiful purpose-built building that is a work of art all by itself, the museum intends to bridge the gap between Western and Eastern art. And even though the museum only opened in 2017, it has already become one of the most visited museums in the whole of the Middle East.
The museum's permanent collection includes works by Manet and Gauguin, along with historical and archaeological treasures from across the United Arab Emirates. Not only will you learn more about the history and culture of the region, but you'll also be able to see masterpieces by some of the most famous names in European art, too. Additionally, the museum often stays open until midnight so that you can avoid the heat of the day and explore by night instead.
The museum does have cloakrooms available where you can store jackets or a small bag, but it doesn't have much room for large suitcases. For that, you're better off storing your luggage at a convenient Bounce facility that can hold any size of bags for an entire day or even longer, letting you explore more easily.
As probably the main tourist attraction in Abu Dhabi, we can't really talk about things to do here without mentioning this magnificent mosque.
This is the largest house of worship in the UAE, and it's an important religious institution for Muslims, but you don't have to be a believer to visit here. The mosque complex covers more than 30 acres, and its stunning Arabic architecture combined with its spotless white walls makes it an almost dreamlike place to explore. Built in 2007, the mosque may not be historic, but its library holds an impressive collection of rare books and manuscripts from across the Arab world. It's also home to what may be the world's largest carpet.
As a working mosque, you'll have to be aware of prayer times before you visit. Friday, especially, is a holy day, so you may want to visit on another day if possible. However, the beautiful architecture makes it the perfect place to immerse yourself in local culture and learn more about the faith of the region.
Be aware that like any other mosque, there are clothing restrictions in place. You won't be allowed in the with bare shoulders or knees, for example. Women must wear a headscarf to cover their head and will be given an Abaya, a loose robe that will cover them while they visit, that must be handed back at the end of your trip.
The mosque may be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi, but its main purpose is still as a house of worship rather than as a place for foreigners to visit. Therefore, don't expect too much in the way of luggage storage here. Better to take advantage of one of Bounce's luggage storage facilities before you go so that you won't get turned away on arrival.
The truth is, you'll see plenty of supercars on the streets of Abu Dhabi itself. But if you want to further celebrate this legendary Italian brand, head to Yas Island and Ferrari World. This is not a museum of cars, however, but an indoor theme park that is home to, among other rides, the world's fastest roller coaster.
The rides here are named after legendary cars made by the famous Italian company, but even if you're not particularly interested in cars, you're guaranteed to have a great time here. Rides are suitable for people of all ages, from young children up to adults, and the indoor park helps keep you out of the sun and heat so that you can focus on enjoying yourself.
Unfortunately, this theme park doesn't have a dedicated luggage storage facility. The best thing to do is to leave your bags behind at a nearby luggage storage service before you go. That way, you can travel light and enjoy this exciting theme park without having to worry about your things.
The airport isn't really supposed to be a highlight of any trip. But Abu Dhabi Airport is, all things considered, not a bad place to begin your exploration of the United Arab Emirates.
With some excellent facilities and good connections to the city, you can easily make the most of your time here and see a little bit of the country. Just remember to leave your bags behind with Bounce so you can make the most of your trip.
