About Hilton Chicago
The Hilton Chicago is a beautiful luxury hotel that overlooks Lake Michigan and Grant Park. Also known as the Chicago Hilton and Towers, this hotel has become a Chicago landmark and has the most significant event and meeting space in any hotel in the city. The hotel was initially designed in the Beaux-Arts architecture during the 1920s and officially opened in 1927 as the Stevens Hotel, making it the biggest hotel in the world. There were 3,000 guest rooms as well as its own ice cream parlor, drug store, bowling alley, and a movie theater. Vice President Charles G. Dawes was the first official guest to register at the Stevens Hotel.
The United States Army purchased the hotel after the Great Depression to use as classrooms and barracks. In 1944, the army sold the hotel to Stephen Healy. The Chicago convention was then held where 54 nations were represented, and the Convention on International Civil Aviation was held to outline the regulations governing the global civil aviation system. Conrad Hilton then purchased the hotel in 1945, and it became the Conrad Hilton Hotel. The hotel was completely remodeled and became the place to stay for politicians, film stars, and even international royalty when visiting the Windy City. The hotel was renamed the Hilton Chicago in 1984 and is still an elitist hotel offering fantastic amenities and personalized experiences. The staff is always going above and beyond to ensure your stay is relaxing and you have everything you need.
Fun Fact: The hotel has hosted every sitting President of the United States since it opened in 1927.
